Saints Archangels Michael and Gabriel church,  Romania

Dharatal volunteered with Ambulanta pentru Monumente, which translates to Ambulance for Monuments, on a hands-on heritage conservation initiative in the Bihor county of Romania. Built in 1759 and later relocated to its current location in 1873, the wooden church was dedicated to the Saints Archangels Michael and Gabriel.  The team had dismantled and replaced the shingles of the church roof which was in an advanced state of degradation, endangering the painting in the interiors. The project highlights the participative approach  where local residents pooled in their resources and supported the restoration of their local cultural heritage, demonstrating the principle “for the community, by the community.”
