Ladder design, Lucknow

The project explores materiality and architectonics through the design of contemporary minimal ladders. The ladders were fabricated in hollow steel sections and derive their proportions and essence from the pragmatic wooden staircases found in old houses. The design process evolved from the drawing board to execution, shaped by space constraints, multiple design iterations and detailed discussions with the fabricator. The result is a clean, functional and durable intervention which is simple yet expressive.
